The ABB AO845A (Article Number: 3BSE045584R1) is a high-performance, 8-channel analog output module belonging to ABB’s S800 I/O system family. It is fully compatible with ABB System 800xA, Advant OCS, and Compact Product Suite platforms.

Designed for demanding process automation environments, the AO845A supports both single (non-redundant) and redundant configurations. It provides 8 unipolar 4–20 mA current output loops for controlling field devices, featuring onboard digital-to-analog converters, HART pass-through communication, and continuous self-diagnostics.

Important Usage & Installation Precautions

• MTU Keying & Compatibility: Always ensure the mechanical keying code on the Mounting Termination Unit (MTU) matches the AO845A module before insertion to prevent damage to backplane connector pins.

• Field Wiring Shielding: Use twisted-pair shielded cables for field signal connections, particularly on channels using HART communication, to prevent high-frequency noise interference.

• Power Supply Integrity: Provide stable, filtered 24 V DC external power to the MTU. Insufficient process voltage will trigger an “External Channel Error” diagnostic alert.

• Cabinet Thermal Management: When mounted vertically in compact MTU arrangements, maximum ambient operating temperature drops to 40 °C (104 °F). Ensure sufficient airflow or active cooling inside the cabinet.

• Hot Swapping Procedure: The module supports Hot-Swap under power, but ensure the retaining latches are fully engaged during insertion to prevent transient communications glitches on the ModuleBus.
